Making art

While I haven’t felt much like writing (my brain has felt very overwhelmed lately perhaps because of summer heat and sun), I wanted to share how I have been creative in ways other than writing.

After purchasing some frames that I originally wanted to develop photos for, necessity and impatience created creativity. Since my parents and I (and Selby) are at our lake cabin far away from stores and various conveniences (photo developing) and I wanted to hang up these new photo frames (that I brought from home), I ended up painting pictures to go in the frames. They were just going to be placeholders until photos were developed but now I like them!!

These are just simple gradients of watercolor paint.
This was inspired by something I saw online and I did my own version. Also watercolor.
The inspiration and my version of that watercolor picture.
Another simple gradient watercolor to fill a new frame.

I don’t know if I will keep all these gradient watercolors I am filling the frames with. For now I really like them and I am proving to myself that I am becoming more confident with my artistic abilities and that certainly isn’t a bad thing (and hopefully spills over into my creative writing).

Selby and I as artists wearing berets to show our artistic endeavors.
I am trying to treat train Selby to actually return the ball when we play fetch. I wrote “Stop trying to make fetch happen, Mommy” as a reference to the movie “Mean Girls.” There was a character who was trying to make the word “fetch” into a cool slang word and another character says in frustration “Stop trying to make fetch happen!”

  1. I like your water colors too. And I really appreciate the Mean Girls reference. I occasionally use fetch the way it was used in the movie, and then someone always says “Fetch isn’t going to happen.”

    1. Thanks! I have made a mental list of movies I need my parents to see so can make pithy references now that I live with them again and “Mean Girls” is on the list! Also “The Princess Bride” : Good luck storming the castle; I do not think that word means what you think it means; My name is Inigo Mantoya, you killed my father. Prepare to die!!!

      1. I’m not a connoisseur of the Princess Bride. I saw it when it came out but I can’t remember any of it. I suppose I should watch it at some point. I’m probably really missing out.

      2. You should! It’s been a while since I saw it but the quotes all come back to me! What are some movies like that for you?

      3. When we moved to Gettysburg, we watched the movie Gettysburg. In it, Martin Sheen (as General Lee) hears distant cannon fire and says “Whooose ahh-tilry is that? (Whose artillery). We hear constant demonstrations of cannon fire from our house and we always quote Sheen. My kids as young as 4 and 2 did it.
